Established in 1850 as a Catholic teacher training college, St Mary’s has a long-standing reputation for academic excellence and the granting of University title is an exciting milestone in its history. With an original intake of just six students, St Mary’s has now grown to around 5,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students across the four academic Schools.
Alarm Communication Ltd (ACL) recently won the Fire and Security maintenance contract after a re-tendering exercise; they now maintain the Universities Fire alarms, Intruder alarms including Panic alarms, CCTV, Access control and the BMS control system.
During refurbishments and project works that relate to these systems, the University put specifications out to tender. In the majority of cases, ACL have won the tenders with new innovative ideas and cost-effective solutions.
Terry Docherty, the University’s Health & Safety Officer said “ACL deliver their services on time and all works are carried out in a professional manner, maintaining very good H&S standards when on site which is very important as often they will be working in and around buildings populated with public, staff and students”.
“They are always clear in the specification on what they will be doing and we do not end up with add-ons as has been the case with other companies in the past with other contractors. I have worked closely with them during the past 5 years and can rely on a good service, this is demonstrated with the maintenance contract where they are on site within an hour of a fault being logged. I couldn’t really make any negative comments about ACL as I have always found them to produce good results, good quality work and very helpful”.
